A person who is always at peace with the world

How to become a person who is always at peace with the world?
Here’s how.

First: Know that you are capable of great things.
You are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will.
You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start in order to be great. You don’t have to be Superman, Batman or anyone who has extraordinary power to be great and to be grand. You only need to look into your heart, know what you want and muster the courage to do it. You are a son of God. You can do anything. You can do all things. Nothing is impossible as long as you wish it with all your heart. But all of these will be in vain if you don’t do anything about it. Our abilities aren’t meant to just sit there. It’s meant to be used.

Second: Must learn to bear certain pains and sorrow that will make you a better person.
That makes the person suffer a little, but afterwards, he’s much sharper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person.
Life throws us battles, pains and sorrows that sometimes we think that what we are going through is beyond our capability. That we will not be able to overcome it. But the thing about these battles is that they make us a better person. They help us build our character, from weak to strong and from broken to whole again.

Third: Correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing in contrast it helps to keep us on the road to justice.

We are not perfect. We are only human. We make mistakes, a lot of them. And the wrong things we did in the past will haunt our present and probably our future. Knowing that we have done injustice to others could serve as a hindrance in keeping ourselves at peace with the world. Our ghost from the past would jump at us so before it happens we should correct our mistakes as soon as possible. Make it right before it’s too late and do our best not to do it again. When we are able to do this we are on the road to justice.

Finally: Leaves a mark.
You should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action.
Good or bad there always be a stain whether it is a scar or something that is invisible and intangible like emotion. It can break a heart and ruin a relationship so be conscious of your words also. You could be someone’s inspiration or someone’s reason to end life. You don’t know what people are going through. Your words might be the last thing they  hear before they decided that they finally had  have enough. And when that thing happens you will not be able to forgive yourself, no amount of “kind words” will make you feel better. There’s always be a monster beneath your bed or inside your head and that monster whose name is conscience or guilt will prevent you from achieving peace with yourself and with the world.

Robin Williams' Death

I was in Second Year College when we watched the film entitled Dead Poet Society and that is the film where I met Robin Williams. Honestly I don’t know much about him but the movie is good. It’s all about him being a teacher of what students considered as boring subject which is poetry but because of his unique approach of teaching he was able to get the attention of his students or better yet he was able to make the students loved the subject.  All of us can relate to that movie because we are all future educators, since then I became a Robin Williams fan. Needless to say I was shocked when I heard the news that he had committed suicide because of depression. I know I’m just one of those people who were saddened by his death but still I decided to learn more about depression, clinical depression specifically and how it was able to lured one of the world greatest comedians. I borrowed a good explanation of depression from Philippine Daily Inquirer. Here read it.

Depression is a mental illness and it isn’t the same as getting the blues, angst, emo, drama or even the occasional bad hair day that many people have. Clinical depression is a serious, legitimate illness. It’s not a character flaw, a sign of weakness or a personality defect. Being a depressive person doesn’t mean that he or she is permanently incapacitated, untrustworthy or out of his or her mind. In many cases, it’s a chemical imbalance, and no amount of telling a person to “snap out of it” is going to work if he or she is not well.

The next question would be to what extent exactly “not being well” meant? The answer is this: depression ranges in seriousness from mild, temporary episodes of sadness to severe, persistent depression. Clinical depression is more severe form of depression, also known as major depression or major depressive disorder.

Here is the list of several symptoms; having five or more of them (episodes of sadness) consistently over a two-week period, “most of the day, nearly every day,” could indicate illness. The behavior includes feeling sad, empty, tearful or even irritable; reduced interest or pleasure in most activities; extremes like significant weight loss or weight gain, decrease or increase in appetite, sleeping too much or too late, or restlessness or slower movement; fatigue; difficulty concentrating; and the most insidious: the thought of or actual attempts at suicide.

Just like everyone else I want to know what’s the difference between depression and sadness and how will we know which is which? According to what I have read it is difficult to have an exact definition of depression, as different persons experience varying degrees of it. But the distinct difference is that depression impairs the individual’s capacity to function efficiently. With depression they are unable to carry out their acts of everyday life. People may feel sad due to challenges, setbacks and loss; however they have the capacity to use personal coping skills to overcome these emotions. It is when they are unable to overcome this low mood, and when it affects their ability to interact with society that we consider the possibility of ongoing depression.

Depression a big no wonder Robin Williams ended his life but I'd like to think that he is bigger. Now that all is clear. I hope people will find this article helpful so that no more thought of or actual attempts at suicide will happen I know that it’s impossible .But there’s always hope. It’s sad that Robin Williams was defeated by depression. May he rest in peace.

Drown

Shoot me down
Into the water I’ll drown
This cruel life I live
Soon I will forget

Deeper and deeper in the water I sink
Dark hands grabbed my shirt
Pulling the life out of my breath
Fading memories of people I've met

Rest at last I achieved
Horrible things put my soul to grief
Please don’t bring me back to life
I’d rather live here in the dark

Under the water I rest my case
Put down the things I cannot change
Love is in the hearts of men
But many people put bullets through their head

Waters rushing to my veins
I’d rather hear my lungs scream
For air than people to hear
Cursing their God’s mighty name

There’s common humanity
Just because they have common enemy
They got the wrong notion of unity
And changing that goes beyond my ability

Oh father embrace me to your realm
Let me experience the bliss of rest
My soul is really tired of worldly things
My soul suffered enough I think

Untitled

Untitled

I heard shouting in your flat
Guess you’re belligerently mad
Your parents are fighting again
And you feel like going to hell

Said your father found another woman
To replace your ailing mom
You asked yourself was it worth it
To make your family complete?

Saw your boyfriend kissing another girl
Having a good time with all your friends
Not even bothering to give you a call
You promise yourself you’ll blow them all

You hide alcohol, drugs and weeds
In your cabinet and under your bed
Burn holes of cigars in the stairs
Different colors of dye dancing on your hair

Tell me is it the life you want to live
Or is it the life you want people to forget?
You pity yourself and blame God
For letting you go in the wrong path

Put down the gun your mom begged
But you’re not hearing her cause your deaf
With all the voices screaming in your head
You finally have had enough you said

Sitting here making memories of you
For people to hold on to
Sitting here making memories of you
For me to hold on to

Why Love?

Alexander Lowen once said that man’s natural behavior is open to love and to life. However our culture has led us to believe that this is not so, that we must be closed and mistrustful. We think that by acting in this way we will not be hurt by life’s surprises but in fact what happens is we are not taking advantage of lives. Because of too much suffering we sometimes want to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. We want to live in a place wherein no people can hurt us. A place where pain, suffering, sadness, hopelessness, fear and all those unpleasant feeling do not exist.

How many times did we try to push those people who truly love us away simply because of the fear that one day they will abandon us? That one day they will grow tired of loving us and will soon depart to continue on their own way. We hold back our emotions; we didn't allow ourselves to go all through them. We are too busy of being afraid. We are afraid of the pain of losing someone. We are afraid to do the things that we truly desire. We stopped listening to our hearts so it stopped speaking to us. It grew tired of being ignored.
We forgot that famous line that says “it is better to love and lost that never to love at all.” We stopped loving because in love there’s always pain. We think we suffered too much. All of us had this experience. At some point we have each said through our tears “I’m suffering for a love that’s not worth it.” We suffer because we feel we are giving more than we receive. We suffer because our love is going unrecognized.

Being good, decent, respectable person will mean that others will see you as weak, vulnerable and easy to manipulate. Good people are always taken for granted that’s why sometimes they don’t want to be good or nice anymore. Our society is unappreciative and abusive. They will say that “nice people” don’t exist anymore but when they do find one I’m sure as hell they will just take that person for granted. Where’s the path to justice? None. It is blocked by the wicked hearts of men. So we become mistrustful in people around us. We built fences around hearts and closed the door that leads to human relationship. But God who accompanies our every step will be annoyed because he can see that we are not paying attention to the miracle of life.
And so we continue to love despite the fear roaming around our hearts. We tell ourselves that the fear of suffering is worst than suffering itself.  After all when we die and our soul arrives at the final judgment God will only ask “Did you love while you were alive?” for that is the essence of life the ability to love.
